As fall sports come to an end, basketball season begins. The Warhorse and Arabian basketball teams have started preparing for the upcoming season.

“I am excited to be spending my senior year with my friends on the team,” senior Karli Geyer said. “Every day we push ourselves to become the best team we can be this season.”

The Arabians started practice on Oct. 17, and the Warhorses followed a week or two after that. In the beginning, practices don’t include those involved in other sports like volleyball and football.

“After football ends, I’ll join basketball, it will be a little rough at first,” senior Brady Cardenas. “I am looking forward to having another good season.”

The Arabians had a scrimmage against Lytle on Oct. 31. While the score wasn’t kept, they were successful in their plays.

“We did a lot of good things during the scrimmage,” senior Preslee Quisenberry said. “Although we didn’t have our full team, I think we did very well.”

Pre-season games begin on Nov. 10, against Navarro, for the Arabians. District begins on Jan. 4 with their first game against Hondo.

“I am very excited for this season,” sophomore Mackenzie McClellan said. “I am looking forward to playing with more experienced players. It is a lot of fun when we get the ball moving and all work together.”

The Warhorses begin their pre-season on Nov. 19, against SA Cole after their first scrimmage against Lytle on Nov. 3. Their district season opens on Jan. 11 against Crystal City.

“I have been going to the gym and working on my overall game to help prepare me for this season of basketball,” junior Cash Walker said.

The players will be attending practices and playing their pre-season games to prepare for district. Their game schedules can be found on, under the athletics tab.

“It is good to have hard teams to help us prepare for district,” senior Sierra Pompa said. “I am excited to play my last year of basketball.”
