After losing six key senior players, all members of the fall tennis team are having to step up their game.

“Being a senior, you just have to set an example in matches and at practice,” senior Lindsey Spannagel said.

Six seniors on the team graduated last year, so every single one of the team members are having to go above and beyond in their performance. That means practices everyday after school filled with challenges with other players and having to run laps.

“I’m really improving my serves everyday,” junior Rafael Rios said. “Jake and I are always challenging each other to make one another better and to see who’s improved more over the past few practices.”

They are returning District Champions of 2016, and would like to claim that title once again. The road to regionals has changed this year. Instead of going straight to regionals after district, there is now bi-district, area, regional quarter-finalists and then regional finalists.

Freshman Denton Zuercher warms up.

“This year we have to work extra to get a spot at regionals,” junior Preslee Quisenberry said. “We make sure to work hard everyday at practice.”
